In October of 2000, Dr. Zamber and associates traveled to Malawi, Africa. Malawi is a developing country with an approximate population of 11 million people and only 2 full-time ophthalmologists. Dr. Zamber had the privilege of working with Dr. Moses Chirambo in the capital city of Lilongwe before moving on to set up a medical/surgical clinic in the town of Zomba. While in Lilongwe he performed examinations, provided treatment for ocular infections and injuries and performed cataract surgery. He also provided instruction for students in an ophthalmology surgical training program.
In Zomba, Dr. Zamber turned a storage closet into a medical/surgical suite and with his team and two wonderful assistants from Malawi the doors were opened for hundreds of patients. During the ten day stay in Zomba, Dr. Zamber screened over 500 patients and performed over 100 surgeries.
