In July of 1998, Dr. Zamber and his team from Fairbanks joined a team of eye care providers from Oregon to complete a surgical and medical mission trip to Salinas, Ecuador. During their three-week stay the teams performed vision screenings and provided medical treatment and glasses as needed to approximately 2000 men, women, and children. The surgeons also performed nearly 200 surgeries, and distributed medicine and supplies to treat eye infection and disease to local health care professionals. Surgeries included cataract extraction with intra-ocular lens implantation, glaucoma surgery, strabismus surgery, pterygium excision, and eyelid repair procedures.
In addition, Dr. Zamber and the team traveled to the Olon Orphanage in Monglaralto where Dr. Zamber donated funds for the children to receive food, clothing and medical care.
